Window 95/98 Dialup Networking Setup

1. If you already have Dialup Networking installed skip to step #20

2. You are going to need your Windows 95 or 98 CD or diskettes, so make sure you have them handy

3. Double-click My Computer on your desktop.

4. Double-click the Control Panel icon.

5. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

.6. Click the Windows Setup tab.

7. Click the Communications component.

8. Click the Details...button.

9. Put a check in the box next to Dial-Up Networking

10. Click OK.

11. Click OK again.

12. Windows will prompt you for your installation diskettes or CD.

13. Wait for Dial-Up Networking to install.

14. When you are told to restart, click OK.

15. Click the Start button.

16. Click Shut Down.

17. Select Restart the computer?

18. Click Yes.

19. Wait for the computer to restart.

20. When you see the login prompt, click OK without entering a password. (This will ensure that you will not be prompted to login to your own computer again.

21. Close the Control Panel window.

22. Double-click the Dial-up Networking icon in the My Computer window.

23. Double-click the Make NewConnection icon.

24. Under Type a name for the computer you are dialing type WorldNET.

25. Click the Configure button.

26. Check that the Maximum speed setting is correct for your modem (for 14.4 modems use 38400, for 28.8 modems use 57600, for 56K modems use 115,200.)

27. Make sure that Only connect at this speed is not checked. Click OK.

28. Click the Next button.

29. Determine which access number (POP) is local for you.

30. Type the area code and telephone numbers in the appropriate fields.

31. Click Next.

32. Click Finish.

33. In the Dial-up Networking window, click the WorldNET icon.

34. Click File from the menu bar.

35. Click Properties.

36. Click the Server Type button.

37. Uncheck Log on to network.

38. Uncheck Net BEUI.

39. Uncheck IPX/SPX Compatible.

40. Click the TCP/IP Settings button.

41. Select Server assigned IP address.

42. Select Server assigned name server addresses.

43. Click OK.

44. Click OK again.

45. Click OK one more time.

46. Now, go to Control Panels and double click Internet. Under the connection tab, make sure that it is set to use your modem. And make sure that it is set to use your new Dial-Up connection called WorldNET, so that any time you try to use the Internet, it knows how to connect us.

47. You are ready to get connected. See other help pages if you need assistance setting up e-mail.
